Soothing Expectant Moms’ Sore Bodies Naturally

Soothing Expectant Moms’ Sore Bodies Naturally

Over the years, many studies have shown that at least 50% of all expectant mothers in the United States experience mild to excruciating back pain at some time during their pregnancies. Oftentimes, that pain starts in either the posterior pelvic or lumbar vertebrae areas as early as the first month after conception. Here’s a look at why those types of complaints are common among expectant mothers and how chiropractic for pregnancy may offer them a solution: After conception, a woman’s body undeniably starts to change. For example, her hormone levels will start to fluctuate. In addition, she’ll experience an increase in uterus size, enlarged breasts, weight gain, a shifting of the pelvic muscles and changes in posture. The fetus, as it grows, will also start to move around and in the process may create temporary pressure points or musculoskeletal misalignment. Clearly, all of those things will most certainly have an impact on the joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves that surround an expectant mom’s spinal column, extremities and joints. Unfortunately, that list of potential symptoms includes, but doesn’t end with: Traveling or Persistent Pains Attributed to Pinched Nerves or Overstretched Muscles Numbness or Tingling in the Extremities Secondary to Circulatory Problems Torn or Sprain Muscles in the Abdomen or Pelvic Region Episodes of Stress Related Incontinence Difficulty Completing Daily Activities (e.g. Walking, Going to the Bathroom) Now that we’ve covered why expectant moms tend to find themselves in pain, let’s shift direction. It has long been accepted by healthcare professionals that basic chiropractic treatments, like spinal manipulation, have the potential to assuage expectant moms’ back pains by: Stabilizing Joints, Muscles and Ligaments Putting the Body Back Into Alignment Relieving Pressure in Impacted Areas Some professional also believe that Indianapolis chiropractic care may help new moms deal with postnatal pains related to breast feeding, chronic fatigue, frequent bending and lifting. Understanding How Chiropractic Care Lowers Healthcare Costs

Understanding How Chiropractic Care Lowers Healthcare Costs

For those approaching older age, it can be challenging to find ways which reduce the overall cost of healthcare. A large proportion of the costs associated originate from hospitalization or being forced to live in a retirement facility with medical specialization capabilities. Routine chiropractic care lowers healthcare costs in a variety of ways, from lowering pain to increasing mobility. According to Dynamic Chiropractic, “Patients who received chiropractic or physical therapy had lower total health care costs and were less likely to have surgery than demographically similar Wellmark members who did not receive such services, and overall, 89 percent of all patients receiving physical medicine services reported improvement of at least 30 percent within 30 days.” By learning more about how routine chiropractic treatment can lower healthcare costs, it should be possible to decide if implementing a consistent regimen into your or a loved one’s lifestyle is necessary. Back Pain The first action that those who suffer from debilitating back pain typically elect to take is making a visit to the doctor. The standard procedure in such an instance typically involves the taking of x-rays and an examination by the physician. If the pain is ongoing and not remediated by typical pain medication, it can lead to hospitalization and even surgery. Even with insurance, this may cause very costly medical bills. Routine Indianapolis chiropractic treatment can not only prevent back pain from occurring in the first place, but may also reverse its course once it has begun. Once back pain begins, it can lead to less activity, poor posture and inability to stretch which slowly cascades into a progressively worsening...

How Athletes Use Chiropractic to Up Their Game

How Athletes Use Chiropractic to Up Their Game

Every athlete is constantly looking for natural ways to increase their performance from a long-term perspective. One of the best methods in which it is possible to start seeing results almost immediately is with Indianapolis chiropractic treatment. According to Dynamic Chiropractic, “Many musculoskeletal complaints arise from injuries sustained in sports. Each year we see athletic performance draw closer to the limits of human potential. Understanding the biomechanical principles involved helps us to prevent injury and restore functional integrity and stability through rehabilitation. While our lever-like extremities transmit forces and motion at a distance, they also favor musculoskeletal injuries by amplifying forces acting on the body’s neuromusculoskeletal system.” By learning more about how athletes using chiropractic treatment up their game, deciding if it is right for your personal athletic scenario will be possible. Aid of Recovery Recovery is a number one consideration for any athlete, especially during periods of intense training. Long periods of intense training can often substantially increase the risk of injury, which may lead to necessary down time. Chiropractic helps reduce or in some cases eliminate the possibility of injury by ensuring a well maintained balance between soft tissue, muscles, tendons and ligaments. This balance also facilitates communication through the nervous system, which helps coordinate recovery efforts after workouts. Increased Emotional and Physical State It has been shown time and time again that our emotional and physical states intertwine significantly. Routine chiropractic treatment nourishes both of these states. From an emotional standpoint, chiropractic treatment releases a variety of neurotransmitters which lead to increased mood, of which can often last for several days or even a week. The physical state is also directly impacted, since flexibility is increased and potential weaknesses or misalignments are addressed. Image courtesy of Paul Gooddy /...

Excellent Chiropractic Care and Preventive Measures May Benefit Gardeners

Excellent Chiropractic Care and Preventive Measures May Benefit Gardeners

Spring has a tendency to bring out the gardener in many of us. Unfortunately, it can also lead to muscle aches and back pains. So before everyone gets outside and starts lugging around heavy bags of fertilizer, we wanted to talk about how a few preventive measures and Indianapolis chiropractic care can work together to help gardeners remain pain-free. Let’s talk about the preventive measures first. The back is one of the main areas of the body that gardeners tend to injure when weeding, shoveling and moving objects with wheelbarrows. Thus, to avoid such scenarios, you may want to make use of the following tips: Purchase gardening supplies in easy to handle amounts. If you can’t do that, once you get home, consider asking someone to help you break the heavy materials up into smaller containers. That way, you won’t have to carry the heavy stuff around from one end of the yard to another. When using a shovel or wheelbarrow to complete gardening tasks, make sure that you maintain the proper posture throughout. For example, remember to bend from the knees and avoid putting strain onto your back. Try to use equipment that is less likely to cause unnecessary muscle strain. Examples include long-handled tools, knee pads, watering wands and gardening benches. Of course the legs, arms and neck can get achy during and after gardening sessions too. As such, we’d like to offer suggestions for avoiding pain in those areas as well. Here they are: Try not to overwork one muscle group. Instead, alter your gardening tasks so that you use each muscle group a little at a time. For example, you may want to get on all fours and plant seedlings for 15 minutes. Then you may want to stop planting and rake up debris for the next 15 minutes. If you already have limited mobility, consider using raised beds or containers for your plants. In doing so, you may be able to reduce the amount of time that you spend getting up and down. Planting fruits, veggies and flowers that require little maintenance is always a great option too. Lastly, we wanted to talk briefly about how engaging in routine chiropractic care can help gardeners. For starters, chiropractors may help gardeners by offering additional tips on how to avoid injury. They may be able to suggest equipment that may alleviate pain or provide extra support (i.e. braces) as well. In addition, they can also assist gardeners by providing chiropractic adjustments to address any injuries, aches and pains that may “crop up” over time. Image courtesy of BJWOK /...

Reasons Why Athletes Using Chiropractic Compete at A Higher Level

Reasons Why Athletes Using Chiropractic Compete at A Higher Level

Many athletes utilize Indianapolis chiropractic with a firm belief that it enhances their athletic performance in a way that is safe, progressive and consistent. Whether it be increased flexibility or enhanced neural communication between muscles and the brain, athletes routinely notice an observable difference after a consistent chiropractic treatment regimen. By learning more about the reasons athletes using chiropractic compete at a higher level, deciding if the treatment is right for you should be possible. Coordination and Balance Coordination and balance are of great use in almost all competitive sports. After a sports injury, it can be challenging to regain the necessary balance to even participate in the sport without risk of a new injury or worsening damage caused by the previous injury. According to The Washington Times, “A functional chiropractic neurologist provides successful outcomes for movement disorders, dystonia, post-stroke rehabilitation, and radiculopathy or nerve entrapment syndromes that are consequences of peripheral or central types of lesions. Specifically to the athlete, a functional chiropractic neurologist will use physical and neurological tests and treatments to provide stability and orientation in space, improve motor movements and sensory acuity, all of which are highly defined in world-class athletes.” Increased Flexibility and Range of Motion Many injuries occur due to a lack of flexibility. For example, a typical ankle sprain is initiated when rotation exceeds the range of motion which can be supported by the tissue. When an ankle sprain does happen, it is likely that this injury may repeat itself, progressively worsening over time. With regular chiropractic treatment, however, not only can this type of injury be treated, it can also be prevented altogether. Enhanced Neural Communication In every sport, it is essential that messages between the brain and active muscles are precise and understood correctly. For this to occur, the spine must be aligned properly, since all messages most flow through this region. Image courtesy of Paul Gooddy /...
